Google Android 12 design leaks, reveal major UI design overhaul

Android 12 Update from Google: Google is anticipated to follow its annual trend with the launch of the first Android 12 Developer Preview this month. Leaked information suggests a significant visual overhaul in the Android 12 interface.

Despite the circulating mock-ups, Google’s official announcement regarding Android 12 is still awaited. 9to5Google reports that Google was developing an advanced theming system for Android 12 last month.

Design concepts from RKBDI, leaked through XDA, reportedly originated from Google’s briefings with OEM partners. Google Android 12 is set to introduce a refreshed interface and enhanced privacy features, marking significant strides for the platform this year.

An early preview of Android 12 reveals exciting new features on the horizon. The upcoming Android version boasts fresh widgets, a dramatically redesigned UI, and privacy enhancements reminiscent of iOS 14. Screenshots of Google Android 12 display a design strikingly similar to Samsung’s One UI 3.1. The design incorporates comprehensive UI elements and a variety of widgets. A minimalist theme is evident in the new icons, and all menus feature an opaque sand color scheme. The system-wide use of the Google Sans font is also noteworthy.

Additional features include extended theming to app icons. Icons for Phone, Clock, and Camera now harmonize with the background wallpaper. The Pixel Launcher has been reconfigured to align left. In the subsequent image, a black strip is visible above the search field. This could potentially enable users to exit views via a downward drag, introducing a fresh UI element. On the privacy front, Google alerts users when the microphone or camera is in use. A green pill, shrinking to a circle, will be displayed in the top right corner of the status bar.
