Google Chrome OS update gets Nearby Share, Phone Hub and more on its 10th anniversary

With the new update, Google is giving its Chrome OS new features such as Nearby Share, Phone Hub, new refreshed icons, and more on its 10th anniversary.

Google is celebrating the 10th anniversary of its Google Chrome OS. For this, the OS is getting couple of new features. Google is now focusing on ways to improve the connection between Android devices and Google Chrome OS with this new update. With this connection improvement the company will focus on how the resources can be shared between devices.

Nearby Share:

According to reports, the update will hit all Chrome OS devices in coming few weeks. This update is likely to improve the user experience. Nearby Share is one of the features that Google is planning to bring with this update. This Nearby Share feature appeared earlier with the launch of Android 11. To recall, This Nearby Share is a Google’s alternative to Apple’s Air Drop feature. With new update on Chrome OS, this feature will allow users to share files and data easily between Android devices. This feature can be used seamlessly without any hard steps.

Multitasking feature on Chrome OS:

With this update, Google is also planning to bring Wi-Fi Sync to Chrome OS. This feature will basically allow Android users to share their Wi-Fi credentials to Chromebook device without accessing Wi-Fi details including username and password of Wi-Fi device.

Phone Hub on Chrome OS:

Phone Hub is another feature that is likely to come in this upcoming Chrome OS update. This feature will allow users to control their smartphones directly from their Chromebooks. Additionally, Phone Hub will allow users to control their hotspot connections, ringing mode etc. The users can also locate their smartphone from the Chrome Device. Additionally, users can keep a check on battery percentage, signal strength, and recently accessed web pages on Chrome browser.

Users will also experience improvement in screenshot capturing abilities with this Chrome OS update. All the screenshot and screen recordings can be accessed though Tote. This Tote is present under Quick Setting Menu. The new update will also improves the Clipboard feature. This feature will now show five copied items at one time. Chromebook in India:

While the Chromebook got a major market hold in US market. This Google’s OS struggled in Indian markets. However, HP is the only brand in Indian markets to update its laptop line up with Chrome OS laptops. These laptops starts at Rs 50000 in India. The HP Chromebook 14a is currently available in India. Another option from HP comes in form of HP Chromebook x360. This laptops sells at Rs 44900.

This confirms that pricing for Chromebook in Indian markets are definitely not as cheap as in US markets. However, Indian market offers more cheaper Windows laptops. The Windows laptops offer much better display, better battery life and improved update cycle when compared to Chrome OS laptops.
