Apple is reportedly considering price hikes for its new lineup. According to Jefferies analyst Edison Lee, Apple is likely to raise prices for the iPhone 17 lineup by about $50 (roughly Rs. 4,000) over the iPhone 16 series. If this prediction is accurate, the iPhone 17 Pro could start at $1,049 (roughly Rs. 91,000), up from the iPhone 16 Pro’s $999 (roughly Rs. 87,000). The iPhone 17 Pro Max will be starting at $1,249 (roughly Rs. 1,09,000), compared to the iPhone 16 Pro Max’s $1,199 (roughly Rs. 1,00,700).

As per Business Insider, Lee says that the iPhone 17 Air (17 Slim), 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max will get a $50 price increase to offset the higher costs of components and tariffs. Although, he didn’t mention the regular iPhone 17 getting a price hike. If true, that would mean that the starting prices for the iPhone 17 series will be:

The rumor surfaced on the Chinese social media site Weibo from a user named Instant Digital (Setsuna Digital). This user corroborates an earlier prediction from Jefferies analyst Edison Lee. Lee expects the iPhone 17 series price change this fall. Instant Digital also thinks that the baseline iPhone 17 Pro will come with 256GB of storage instead of 128GB like the iPhone 16 Pro.

iPhone 17 Series: Why Price Hike?
According to Lee, Apple is planning to raise prices for the iPhone 17 Air (Slim), iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max. This rise is due to rising component costs and tariffs related to China. Additional cost factors, such as potential tariffs from India and other sectors, have not yet been included.
Since the “Liberation Day” in the US, the possible effect of tariffs on the iPhone’s price has been widely discussed. News on the price hikes follows a May report by The Wall Street Journal. The report states that Apple is considering a price increase and could attribute the rise to new and updated features instead of tariffs. However, the launch of the rumored iPhone 17 series will likely come with a higher price, no matter what Trump says or does.
Furthermore, the price hike is reported due to major changes to the lineup in terms of design and new upgrades. To recall, the last price increase was five years ago. On the other hand, the lite version of iPhone 17 Air (Slim) price could start at $949 (Rs 83,000).

In comparison, the iPhone 16 Pro was launched at $999 for the 128GB variant and Rs. 1,19,900 in India. Whereas, the 256GB costs $1,199 and Rs. 1,29,900. As per latest leaks, the iPhone 17 series could launch between September 8 and September 12. The base iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air are said to run on the Apple A19 chip. While, the Pro models including the iPhone 17 Pro models could feature the A19 Pro chip. In terms of memory, Apple is said to pack the single 8GB RAM in the iPhone 17.
The iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Air, and iPhone 17 Pro Max models could ship with 12GB RAM. The Pro lineup could get a 48-megapixel telephoto sensor and a 12-megapixel selfie shooter. Reports suggests that there will be a new vapour chamber cooling system and scratch-resistant and anti-reflective display coating.

While the base model may stick to a similar design as its predecessor, the Air and Pro models may catch attention. The iPhone 17 Air will launch as the slimmest iPhone with just 5.5mm thickness.
