iQOO 9 Pro 5G mobile phone: First Impression; new design and hardware

The all-new iQOO 9 Pro is the premium flagship smartphone from the brand. The device comes with new set of hardware and completely new overhaul. It features this year’s flagship Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC.

The iQOO 9 Pro 5G has been introduced as the newest top-of-the-line iQOO phone by the company in India, taking over from the previous year’s flagship, the iQOO 7 Legend 5G. It should be noted that the iQOO 7 Legend still remains a top-notch premium smartphone. This smartphone range provides excellent camera features and outstanding performance. The only downside we found in our review was its subpar battery life, but the company has provided a fast charger as a remedy, which is included in the package.



iQOO 9 Series launched in India:

As a reminder, iQOO recently released three new smartphones as part of their premium iQOO 9 lineup. These include the iQOO 9, the iQOO 9 SE, and the iQOO 9 Pro 5G. The iQOO 9 will replace the iQOO 7, while the iQOO 9 Pro will take the place of the iQOO 7 Legend. The iQOO 9 SE is a brand new addition to the smartphone series. Let’s see if the newly launched iQOO 9 Pro 5G can truly surpass the iQOO 7 Legend in every way.

iQOO 9 Pro India launch:

The all-new iQOO 9 Pro 5G is the new flagship mobile phone in this series. It comes with several new upgrade over the iQOO 7 Legend 5G. Now, the battery capacity has been increased with the launch of new iQOO9 series. More importantly, the camera has taken a drastic improvement in terms of hardware. In this review, we will be sharing this first look experience based on our hands on experience.



iQOO 9 Pro price in India:

iQOO 9 Series gets the all-new iQOO 9 Pro 5G phone as the most expensive offering in the country yet. This iQOO Pro variant comes in two RAM/ Storage options. Here, the base variant of iQOO9 Pro packs in 8GB of RAM and 256GB of onboard storage. This base variant of iQOO 9 Pro comes with a price tag of Rs 64990. The other variant packs in 12GB of RAM and 256GB of onboard storage. This top-end variant of iQOO 9 Pro comes with a price tag of Rs 69990 in India.

Regarding the colour options. This iQOO 9 Pro 5G mobile phone is available in Legend finish with white, blue and red colours. iQOO 9 Pro 5G BMW M Motorsports Edition phone:

Just like last year, this year also iQOO has continued its partnership which BMW Motorsport. With this partnership, the Chinese smartphone makers bring its racing-inspired “Legend” finish on the latest iQOO 9 Pro and the iQOO 9 5G mobile phone. This design is similar to what we have already seen on the last year’s iQOO 7 Legend 5G in India. Besides this, there are some minor tweaks.

Based on our hand feel, the overall texture of the back panel appears to be bit different. This time a polished strip runs through the otherwise matte back panel. The one-third of the back panel is occupied by the camera module on the iQOO 9 Pro. The box content of the iQOO 9 Pro 5G phone includes a high-quality TPU case which comes with same Legend finish like the BMW Motorsport inspired stripes.

As far as rest of the design is concerned, the iQOO 9 Pro gets the biggest 6.78-inch display on comparison to the rest of the smartphones in iQOO 9 Series. This display gets a hole-punch for the selfie camera. The rear side of the smartphone gets the triple rear camera module along with branding. The right edge of the smartphone gets the Volume rockers and the power on/off button. The left edge of the iQOO 9 Pro 5G phone comes with Dual SIM Tray.




Furthermore, there is an infrared emitter on the top along with the secondary noise cancellation microphone. The bottom edge of the smartphone gets the USB Type-C port along with speaker grille. iQOO 9 Pro 5G Phone: Specifications

In terms of specs, the all-new iQOO 9 Pro 5G phone comes with a bigger 6.78-inch curved-edge AMOLED display. This display gets a 2K screen resolution of 1440×3200 pixels. Furthermore, this is an LTPO panel with an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120Hz along with 300Hz touch sampling rate.



  • Hardware:

In India, the iQOO 9 Pro 5G phone debuts with this year’s flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC. This chipset is fabricated on a 4nm fabrication process. It gets the maximum CPU clock speed of 3.0GHz. Besides this, the Chinese smartphone makers also claims that this chipset can offer several performance improvements over the Snapdragon 888 SoC. To recall, this Snapdragon 888 chipset was used by many popular premium smartphones last year.

  • Connectivity:

In addition to this, iQOO 5G phone gets an additional Independent Display Chip (IDC). This chip can offer several benefits when it comes to the gaming imaging. Similarly for the communication standards, the iQOO 9 Pro includes Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC and other connectivity options. Additionally, there is a dual 5G-Standby option. Furthermore, the Chinese company is offering support for up to 14 5G bands on the latest iQOO 9 Series mobile phone.



  • Camera:

The brand-new iQOO 9 Pro gets biggest upgrades in terms of cameras. On comparison to iQOO 7 Legend, the iQOO 9 Pro gets a 50-megapixel primary camera with optical image stabilisation (OIS). Furthermore, this primary camera also gets gimbal stabilisation. As per our usage, this gimbal stabilisation is similar to the Vivo X70 Pro+. Besides this, the iQOO 9 Pro gets a 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens with 150-degree field of view and autofocus capabilities. The third lens is a 16-megapixel telephoto lens with 2.5x optical zoom and OIS. For selfies and video calls, the iQOO 9 Pro gets a 16-megapixel front selfie camera.

  • Battery:

The complete hardware on iQOO 9 Pro get its backup from a 4700mAh battery. This battery is an upgrade over the iQOO 7 Legend. To recall, the iQOO 7 Legend packs in a 4000mAh capacity battery. Furthermore, the wired charging speed has been bumped up by 120W. Additionally, the Chinese company is also offering 50W wireless charging on the new iQOO phone. However, this wireless charging is possible only with the company’s own charging dock. Keep in mind, users will have to purchase this charging dock separately.

iQOO 9 Pro 5G Phone: Our Verdict

iQOO 9 Pro 5G smartphone runs on the FunTouch OS 12 which is based on Android 12 OS out of the box. As per our usage, this time with iQOO 9 Pro, the company seems to have tick mark all the boxes when it comes to the hardware. Based on the specs sheet, the iQOO 9 Pro is the premium smartphone for early 2022.




As for the gaming capabilities, the Vivo iQOO 9 Pro 5G phone appears to get that extra edge over its competitors in terms of gaming. In addition to this, the Chinese company iQOO has even launched the new gaming accessories called the iQOO Gamepad. This Gamepad adds the physical buttons for the gamers.
