5G is being implemented globally at a fast speed as next-generation connectivity technology. According to data by GSA (Global mobile Suppliers Association), Commercial 5G networks are live in 61 countries worldwide. In particular, in these countries, 144 operators launched commercial, 5G networks compliant with 3GPP. In the meantime, there are 413 operators investing in various 5G testing, trails, plotting and launch in 131 countries including India.
This is a robust technology which will enhance the role of the internet of things (IoT) products globally. 65 operators have been identified to be investing in 5G standalone. This involves providers who have began 5G SA networks and others who test, pilot, prepare and launch them.
5G in India: When will it launch?
India is not on the list since 5G commercial networks in the country have not yet been launch. However, in Hyderabad, private players such as Airtel recently showcased their 5G technologies. Reliance Jio is another telecommunications company that is preparing to try 5G in India. Also Read: 5G trials in India could start in May 2021
As per our previous post, the DoT (Telecommunications Department) has told the Parliamentary IT Committee to launch trials in India in one or two months by May. The Committee has receive 16 research applications using both homegrown and imported technology. However, it is unlikely that users will get their hands on soon as it could take longer for commercial services to roll out after the trials.
Airtel says its 5G networks are ready
Gopal Vittal, MD and CEO of India and South Asia of Bharti Airtel says, “The Airtel is now ready 5G networks even though the 5G ecosystem itself is at an evolving stage in India”. Airtel claims users can easily download a whole film over its 5G networks in a matter of seconds. It uses NSA (Non Stand Alone) network technologies to demonstrate its live service. The 5G coverage is across a liberalized spectrum inside the 1800 MHz band.
Meanwhile, Smartphones companies in India, such as OnePlus Nord, Moto G 5G and Apple iPhone 12, have already launched their 5G-ready devices. According to reports, The 5G smartphones will cross 38 million by end of 2021 in India.
Reliance Jio to launch 5G in H2, 2021:
Reliance Jio is working hard to roll out the 5G technology in India in the second half of 2021. At the Indian Mobile Congress last year Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) chairman, Mukesh Ambani shares that 5G solutions works by the indigenous network, hardware and technology components that have grown.
