Asus ZenFone 8 to rename as Asus 8Z, ZenFone 8 Flip could skip India

Asus could launch an all new Asus 8Z in India altogether. The smartphone will be a renamed version of ZenFone 8. The company is planning to skip the ZenFone 8 Flip in India.

With the global launch of Asus ZenFone 8 series, the rumors about its India launch is churning in the rumor mills. The reviewers and critics has also come out with positive reviews for the latest ZenFone 8 series. Previously, the company postponed the launch event citing the 2nd wave of COVID-19. But, now, According to a leaked document, Asus India could launch the all new ZenFone 8 in India as the Asus 8Z, the next upcoming smartphones.

To recall, after loosing a case in 2019, Asus is forbidden to use the ZenFone branding for its smartphone in India. Due to this case, Asus never use the ZenFone branding in India after 2019. Courtesy to which earlier, the ZenFone 6 smartphone was launched in India with the name of Asus 6Z. Now, it seems like Asus could repeat the same trend for the Asus ZenFone 8 smartphone as well. According to Google Play listings, the all new ZenFone 8 has been listed as the Asus 8Z moniker.

Asus ZenFone 8 as 8Z for India?

With the launch of Asus 8Z in India, the Taiwanese company is all set to take on the rivals such as Xiaomi and OnePlus in the premium smartphone category. The all new ZenFone 8 smartphone could launch in India under sub-Rs 50000 price bracket. However, for India, there is no exact information about Asus ZenFone 8 price. The smartphone might launch with a compact form factor. The device will support a smaller 5.9-inch AMOLED display along with 120Hz refresh rate. This year, Asus is highly dependent on Qualcomm’s high-end Snapdragon 888 chipset. The upcoming smartphone in India will also use the same chipset.



Asus 8Z in India: Other Specs

Regarding the camera configuration, the Asus ZenFone 8 in India will feature only two cameras instead of usual four cameras. The main camera will use a 64-MP primary Sony sensor. The primary sensor will be accompanied by an ultra-wide camera using 12-MP sensor. Keep in mind, the same camera will also doubles as the macro lens. This means that there will be no Flip cameras. For selfies, Asus will be using a 12-MP selfie camera which can record 4K videos at 30fps. The upcoming smartphone will pack in a 4000mAh battery along with 30W fast charging system.

Asus to skip ZenFone Flip?

The Google Play listing does not feature any details about the Asus ZenFone 8 Flip for India. This means that there is a possibility that the Taiwanese company is likely to skip the ZenFone 8 Flip for India altogether. Earlier launched, Asus 6Z features the Flip camera mechanism. The smartphone was launch in 2019. But, it could not attract many of the smartphone lovers. The company also dropped the price for Asus 6Z to as low as Rs 23000.
