Chinese smartphone brand Vivo returns as title sponsor for IPL 2021

Vivo, a Chinese smartphone brand, has officially confirmed its return as the title sponsor for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. The Chinese smartphone makers had to withdraw from sponsoring the IPL 2020 due to the Galwan Valley clash between India and China. Vivo was replaced by Dream 11 as the title sponsor for IPL 2020. Following the conflict, India also banned several Chinese apps, such as TikTok, PubG Mobile, and more. These apps remain inaccessible in India till date. However, Vivo has managed to resume its sponsorship deal for the IPL 2021, which is a positive sign for the Chinese smartphone industry.

Vivo resumes its title sponsorship after a year-long absence. The brand replaces Dream11, which sponsored IPL 2020 amidst tensions with China. In a press briefing, the company announced that Vivo has secured its title sponsorship for IPL 2021 on the same terms as the previous deal. Last year, Vivo, a Chinese smartphone brand, had to give up its title sponsorship for IPL 2020 due to the anti-China sentiment in India.



Dream 11, an Indian fantasy sports platform that is very popular among the young generation, took over the sponsorship. However, this year, Vivo has regained its title sponsorship for IPL 2021. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that the IPL 2021 will start on April 9th.

Sources say that Vivo may unveil one or two of these products during the IPL 2021, which it sponsors. Vivo has also revealed that it will open more than 150 exclusive stores across India this year. Thus, increasing its total number of stores to over 650.
