The Poco M4 5G will land in Indian markets on May 5. However, we were lucky to get an early hands-on on the latest Poco 5G Phone. Let’s look at the newly launched Poco M4 5G in India, the successor to Poco M3.
Poco M4 5G: First Look
The all-new Poco M4 5G is the latest smartphone in India under Rs 15000 price segment. The base variant of Poco M4 starts at under Rs 13000 in India. However, with some bank offers, you can get the Poco phone for less than Rs 11000. Now, let’s look at the unboxing of India’s new Poco M4 5G mobile phone.
Unboxing
The all-new Poco M4 5G comes inside a standard Poco packing. Like any other Poco phone, Poco M4 comes inside a yellow-themed box packaging. At the back of the box, you will find some of the critical highlighting features of the Poco M4 smartphone. Also Read – MIUI 12.5 update list
After opening the box packaging, we got some documentation and paperwork, a SIM ejector tool, and a good quality transparent TPU case. We get the Poco M4 mobile unit, a 22.5W fast charger, and a USB Type-C cable in the inner section. Keep in mind that the smartphone supports 18W fast charging only.
Different Style Design on Poco Phone
Considering the price point, the design of the smartphone is good. The rear side gets a big bumpy camera module, and the camera module is plateaued on the top side. The side frame is flat in shape. The Chinese smartphone makers offer a pre-applied screen protector, and the back panel could attract fingerprints. However, with a transparent TPU case, we can protect the Poco handset.
At the bottom edge, we get the Type-C port for charging and data transfer, a single speaker grille, and a primary microphone. We get the volume rocker and power on/off button on the right edge, which doubles as the fingerprint sensor. At the same time, the top edge gets the IR Blaster and a 3.5mm headphone jack. We get a dual SIM tray with a dedicated microSD card slot on the left edge.
Full-HD+ Display on Poco Phone
Poco M4 5G phone supports a 6.58-inch Full-HD+ IPS LCD display. We get a dewdrop notch at the top of the display to accommodate the front-facing camera. At the bottom of the display, we get a prominent bezel chin. Considering the price point, we can’t complain about the bezels. This Poco M series 5G phone also gets Wide-vine L1 certification.Â
We can stream the Full-HD content on OTT like Netflix, Amazon Prime, HotStar, etc. The screen quality is decent in indoor lighting conditions. The viewing angles on the latest Poco phone are Ok. In some situations, the colors on display appear to be the duller side. Outdoor visibility is average. This display comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. Moreover, the 90Hz refresh rate is smooth enough for day-to-day tasks.
MediaTek Dimensity 700 on Poco 5G phone
An octa-core MediaTek Dimensity 700 processor is the biggest USP of this latest 5G smartphone. As mentioned above, Poco India confirmed that the Poco M4 5G would offer seven 5G band support. Given the pricing, it will be the first smartphone to include seven 5G band connections under the Rs 11000 price category.
As per our usage, in the 128GB storage variant, we get 106GB of free space out of the box. You can get more free space by uninstalling the junk apps. Different benchmarking apps provided excellent scores for the Poco M4 5G mobile.Â
Additionally, we get the UFS 2.2 storage and LPDDR4X RAM option on this smartphone. Even while gaming, we get an average frame rate of 35-40fps on games like PubG, CoD, BGMI, and others. The fast RAM and storage work perfectly fine, and we did not notice any bugs or issues while opening and closing apps.
50MP dual rear cameras
The newest Poco M4 5G comes with a 50MP dual rear camera setup. You will also find a unique-style camera module featuring a dual-camera design at the back of the smartphone. However, only one camera sensor works well; the other sensor is more of a gimmick. The front 8MP selfie camera on the front works fine.
Low Light Testing
Our low light testing found that the contrast levels on the Poco M4 5G are decent. The detailing in the photos is decent. In some situations, the object may appear dark, and in other cases, the color appears on the warmer side. Additionally, the object turns out to be dull in some situations. At the same time, the details captured by the front camera are good.
Furthermore, the Edge detection in portrait mode works decently. Depending on the background lighting conditions, it’s a hit or miss in some situations. Additionally, the contrast levels are good in selfies. In portrait mode, the colors are standard; we did not notice any yellow tint in the background or on the object. Day Light Photography
In outdoor situations, the Poco M4 5G camera works fine. The contrast levels are good on the Poco phone in outdoor conditions. The skin tone colors are also decent. However, like indoors, the color appears to be on the warmer side in some situations. An OTA update from the company can also adjust this camera issue. Moreover, the Portrait Mode works fine in daylight situations.
In terms of daylight selfies, the contrast levels are good and decent, and the portrait mode also works fine on the selfies in daylight situations. We did not find anything special or something to complain about considering the price point. More details and other camera samples will be shared in the complete review of the Poco M4 mobile phone.
5000mAh battery on Poco 5G phone
A 5000mAh battery is more than enough to keep the phone running for one whole day. Meanwhile, the Poco M4 will take around 2 hours to charge completely from 0 to 100 percent with an inbox charger. With heavy usage, the Poco handset will run for approximately 20 hours, which means that heavy users will need to carry the original Poco charger.
However, the Poco M4 feels a bit heavy with a bigger battery. It weighs around 200 grams. With a TPU case, the weight of the Poco phone will increase. Besides this, the Poco M series 5G phone gets the 3.5mm headphone jack and an IR Blaster. Meanwhile, this IR Blaster is one of the highlighting features on all the Poco, Redmi, Mi, and other Xiaomi phones. With dual-band Wi-Fi, the Wi-Fi range is also decent.
