The back of the retail box features the flagship smartphone’s key highlights and significant specifications. It also mentions the manufacturing and price details. The unit we got is the Chinese version. Luckily all the Google Play Apps come pre-installed.
On opening the retail box of 12S Ultra, we get a black rectangular section on the top, packing some documentation and paperwork in the SIM tray ejector tool. Furthermore, we also get an excellent quality transparent TPU Case that will protect the Xiaomi 12S Ultra back panel. The TPU case gets a circular cut for the camera module. Physical design Xiaomi 12S Ultra
The latest Xiaomi 12S Ultra is a gorgeous smartphone for the year 2022. It comes with a smooth display and is made up of durable materials. In our opinion, it is one of the best-looking phones of 2022. Besides its design, we are highly impressed with the phone’s performance. As for the Physical design, the smartphone comes with a hole-punch display that accommodates the front selfie camera. The back of the smartphone features a big circular camera module that houses a triple rear camera setup along with an LED flash. Besides the circular module, we can see the Leica branding. The camera module is placed on the smartphone’s bumped curved edges rectangular-shaped pill.
The Aluminum Frame has a Rose Gold trim in the green variant of the flagship 12S Ultra. Compared with Mi 11 Ultra, the 12S Ultra is a lightweight handset. The Physical Design of the Xiaomi 12S Ultra is similar to what we have already seen on the Xiaomi 12 Pro.
The right edge gets the volume rockers along with the power button. The top edge features IR Blaster. At the same time, the left side is clean. On the bottom edge, we get the Dual SIM Tray slot, a USB Type-C port, a primary microphone, and a speaker grille.
Xiaomi 12S Ultra with AMOLED display
The all-new Xiaomi 12S Ultra sports a 6.73-inch LTPO AMOLED display. This display comes with a screen resolution of 1440*3200 pixels. Furthermore, it sports a 120Hz refresh rate, Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and much more. The Chinese smartphone makers claim that this display has a peak brightness of up to 1500 nits.
As for our experience, these brightness level reaches in some particular condition. Our unit has a peak brightness of around 650 nits in normal conditions. Furthermore, the display is not only fast and smooth, but it also gets a variable refresh rate between 1Hz to 120Hz. The variable refresh rate will help save the battery life when the phone is idle. Overall, the display is bright and offers vibrant colors. As mentioned above, the Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protect it.
Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 on Xiaomi 12S Ultra
The latest flagship chipset, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC, powers the Ultra phone. The new chipset is built on TSMC’s 4nm fabrication process. This chipset has got four power cores and four efficiency cores. The four Cortex-X2 cores have a top speed of 3.19GHz. Whereas the four Cortex-A510 efficiency cores have a top speed of 1.80GHz.
The latest Snapdragon flagship processor is fast. Additionally, it offers good heat management. In our usage, the Xiaomi 12S Ultra provides optimal performance for an extended period. Furthermore, the smartphone does not get that HOT under heavy use. Even on the performance graph, the performance remains consistent for a very long time.
During the launch event, Xiaomi claims that the CPU performance of the Xiaomi 12S Ultra is about 10 percent better than the performance of other smartphones with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 CPU. Furthermore, the GPU performance of the 12S Ultra improves by 20 percent, more than the competition. Moreover, in our experience, the smartphone makers have done an excellent job with heat management on the 12S Ultra. In the gaming experience also, we did not notice any frame rate drop. It can play graphic intensive games for a long time.
RAM and Storage options
The all-new Xiaomi 12S Ultra comes with up to 12GB LPDDR5 RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage. Sadly, the Ultra phone does not get any space for storage expansion via a microSD card slot. Additionally, there is no place for a 3.5mm headphone jack either.
Triple rear cameras on Xiaomi 12S Ultra Phone
Photography and videography are the most highlighting factors of the Xiaomi 12S Ultra. Undoubtedly, the flagship 12S Ultra has the best camera configuration on an Android smartphone. This time, the Chinese smartphone brand has partnered with Leica to enhance the photo and video quality experience on the latest flagship 12S Ultra.
As for the camera configuration, the triple rear camera on the Ultra phone includes a 50.3MP primary camera which gets multi-directional PDAF, Laser Autofocus, and Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) support. The secondary camera is a 48MP periscope lens with PDAF Autofocus. Additionally, it also gets the Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) feature. Furthermore, we can also do 5x optical zoom with this secondary lens.
The third lens is a 48MP Ultra-wide-angle camera and a TOF camera for the depth sensor. The front gets a 32MP front camera for selfies and video calling. In terms of videography, the front camera can shoot videos at 1080p resolution. The rear camera setup can shoot videos in 8K resolution.
MultiCam Mode
Besides this, the photo and video features available on the Leica lenses are Dual-LED Flash, HDR, Panorama, gyro-EIS, and Dolby Vision HDR 10-bit rec. @ 4K and 1080p resolution. Besides this, the MultiCam mode is one of the most impressive camera features on the Ultra phone. This mode allows users to see six different camera views at once.
Remember, the Xiaomi 12S Ultra smartphone is one of the fewest phones to launch with a 1-inch type camera sensor. Furthermore, it is also the first phone to use Sony’s latest IMX989 camera sensor. In our experience, the photo and video quality of the latest 12S Ultra are excellent. Interestingly, even after cropping the image, the picture also retains the quality and details.
HyperOIS
The latest Xiaomi 12S Ultra also features a HyperOIS feature. This feature provides excellent stability while shooting videos. This feature lets us click clear and colorful images during night shots. For the camera verdict, we can only say that the 12S Ultra has a complete camera setup for the users.
Xiaomi 12S Ultra: Software, Battery Life
For the software part, the Xiaomi 12S Ultra boots on MIUI 13 skin based on Android 12 out of the box. The Chinese smartphone makers have promised to offer three years of major software updates and four years of security patches. Battery Life on Xiaomi 12S Ultra Phone
The Xiaomi 12S Ultra smartphone gets its backup from a 4,800mAh battery with 67W wired and wireless fast charge, 50W wireless fast charge, and 10W reverse wireless charge capability. When ultimately charged, the 12S Ultra can last 7 hours in intensive use and 24 hours in light use.
