Redmi K50i 5G Mobile: First Impressions
Like the OnePlus Nord series, the Redmi K series features some of the most exciting smartphones. These are the brand’s most expensive smartphone series. With a mid-range price segment, these smartphone offers some of the premium features and the best technology.
Redmi K50i is the latest 5G mobile phone to launch under the Redmi K series. The new phone is not the direct successor to the previously launched Redmi K20 Pro. To recall, Redmi K20 Pro was launched back in 2019.
In 2019, the Redmi K20 Pro attempted to grab the eyeballs through its performance-centric approach. The newest member, Redmi K50i, is the company’s highly anticipated 5G mobile phone for the year. The Redmi K50i 5G looks more like a gaming smartphone. The latest Redmi K series 5G Phone will compete against the likes of Nothing Phone 1, OnePlus 10R, OnePlus Nord CE 2T, and others. Before getting into the details, let’s unbox the Redmi K50i 5G phone first.
Redmi K50i 5G Mobile: Unboxing
Like the Redmi K20 Series smartphones, the latest Redmi K50i 5G arrives in a fairly plain retail box, and the retail box does not even get a feature picture of the smartphone. The biggest selling point of this Redmi K series 5G mobile phone is the presence of the MediaTek Dimensity 8100 SoC and support for Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos.
The remainder of the Redmi smartphone’s important features and characteristics are listed on the rear of the retail package. Interestingly, the retail box features a “Made in India” logo that stands out. Also Read – Vivo iQOO Z3 to launch in India with Snapdragon 768G for Rs 25000
After peeling the back tape and sliding the lid off, we open the retail box of the Redmi K50i 5G smartphone. Inside the box, we get a fairly standard set of accessories. The Redmi K50i retail box packs a SIM Tray ejection tool and a transparent plastic case inside a paper folder. Also Read – Realme Buds Q2s TWS earbuds launched in India; first impression
Display Protection
The Redmi K50i 5G mobile unit sits right below that. Redmi K50i is made of plastic with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection on the front. Underneath, we get a pretty hefty 67W fast charger with a USB Type-A port. The box also includes a good quality USB Type-A to Type-C cable. Both of these accessories will be needed for fast charging.
Redmi K50i 5G Mobile: Design
As mentioned above, the Redmi K50i 5G mobile has a plastic back panel and a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection on the front. We got the Quick Silver color option. Furthermore, Xiaomi calls the finish on the “Quick Silver” shade a “crystalline.” The back panel comes with a color shift pattern. The phone looks icy blue under indoor lighting while metallic silver in outdoor conditions.
In terms of construction quality, the K50i 5G phone feels all right. However, for in-hand experience, the handset doesn’t feel as slick as others. Furthermore, we can get other metal and glass handsets in this price range. Dimension-wise, the Redmi K50i 5G mobile is 8.7mm thick and weighs around 200grams. The back panel features a prominent triple camera setup, and the cameras on the rear protrude a bit.
This makes the phone wobble when placed on its back on a plain hard surface. The silicone case will stop this wobbling effect. However, it will also bring some unmanageable grip because of its slightly sharp edges. We suggest you do not judge the phone for its looks because it could be subjective. The power button and an integrated fingerprint sensor are placed on the right edge, and the volume rockers are on the right edge above the power button. Furthermore, the dual Nano SIM Tray and USB Type-C port for charging and data transfer are on the bottom. The main speaker grille also joins at the bottom edge, and the left edge is empty. Just like the Redmi K20 Series mobile phone, the high-demanded 3.5mm headphone jack is also on the Redmi K50i 5G. The headphone jack is placed on the top, along with an evergreen IR Blaster. Overall, the handset does not feel that heavy. However, small-hand users might struggle to maintain a grip on the smartphone because of its tall frame. Although, it was still manageable for me. But people with small hands will have a tough time during extensive usage.

The all-new Redmi K50i 5G mobile sports a massive 6.6-inch display with a Full-HD+ screen resolution. Being a gaming smartphone, the Redmi K50i gets a variable 144Hz refresh rate. Dolby Vision and HDR10 support are noteworthy features of the latest Redmi K50i smartphone. We tested the peak brightness, and in our experience, this display can reach a peak brightness of up to 650 nits.
The Full-HD+ display on Redmi K50i 5G mobile comes with an FFS panel. The FFS panel offers a better viewing angle than an IPS display panel. Meanwhile, it sits between an LCD and OLED if we discuss color accuracy. In our experience, everything looks crisp and clear on this display. With the “Vivid” mode, the color saturation is on the higher side, and the display quality difference is visible.
Being a gaming-centric smartphone, the Redmi K50i 5G mobile offers a higher 144Hz refresh rate. With a 144Hz refresh rate, the smartphone enables the 90fps mode in Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI). The display also sports Dolby Vision. With Dolby Vision active, we loved streaming video on Netflix, and the video-watching experience with YouTube was also excellent. The triple rear camera setup on the Redmi K50i 5G mobile phone features a 64MP main camera. The secondary camera is an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens and a 2MP macro sensor. Regarding camera experience, the Redmi K50i is not a camera-centric smartphone. But this does not mean that it clicks bad photos. We clicked a few shots, including some shots in tricky light situations. The phone appeared to struggle to lock the focus on the subject rapidly. The outdoor photos turned out excellent. We enjoyed the dynamic range, although the color accuracy was slightly off. The complete camera review will be published in the Redmi K50i full review.
Battery Life on Redmi K50i
The all-new Redmi K50i 5G mobile packs in a 5080mAh battery. In general usage, the battery should last for about a day. During this general usage, we texted, did calling, used social media, YouTube Video playback, and much more. The smartphone also comes with support for 67W fast charging. The fast charging will help the Redmi K series smartphone to charge quickly. Also Read – Which is the first phone of Redmi with AMOLED display?
Redmi K50i: Final Review
After the highly successful Redmi K20 Series, the Redmi K50i should appeal to a certain audience. You can go with this latest Redmi K50i 5G mobile phone if raw power and game performance are important. The Redmi K50i is a good buy at Rs 25,999. It is not attempting to be exceptional, but it does provide a blend of hardware that sticks out in the pricing bracket.
The design is pretty bland; thus, many gamers may dislike it. If compared with Redmi K20 Pro, the design is decent. However, the Redmi K50i 5G mobile is not a gaming phone, and it appeals to many users, including those who like gaming and are always attached to their preferred streaming app to watch their favorite show.
